CBS Wellbeing Week 2024

Wellbeing Week in the CBS

Last week, from the 26th Fenruary  to 1st March, was a very important week in the calendar of CBS Secondary School, Mitchelstown: Wellbeing Week. Wellbeing Week is a five day all inclusive, whole school endeavour, that has been occurring in the school for a few years now. The overall aim of the week is to promote wellbeing for the whole school community: staff, students, and parents. With a wide and varied array of events held over the course of the week, all six Wellbeing Indicators were catered to. Monday saw the week begin with Internet safety talks for first and second year students from CyberSafeKids. Monday also saw a variety of treats, (healthy and not so healthy!) organised by the Wellbeing committee.

Tuesday continued the theme of Internet safety, with the talks including the Third Year and senior cycle students. This was followed by a drug Awareness talk for all year groups. Wednesday then saw the students take a lead in facilitating Wellbeing, with the LCA students cooking a fabulous spread for staff as part of their Hotel and Catering module. Many thanks to Ms Laura Healy from Presentation Secondary, Mitchelstown for her guidance and direction.

Friday saw the culmination of the Wellbeing Week, with the “Go Orange for Mental Health Day’, raising money for Cycle Against Suicide. We also had a very successful drop in café, where students got the opportunity to have a chat and a cup of hot chocolate with friends.

However, the largest event of the week too place on Thursdsay with the CBS Careers Fair, held in Mitchelstown Leisure Centre. Here over 30 exhibitors from Universities, Technological Universities, PLCs, Agricultural Colleges, SOLAS, and a number of private companies, were showcasing their respective post Leaving Cert opportunities. The school would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of our exhibitors today for taking the time to meet with students from the CBS and from our neighbouring schools in Mitchelstown and Fermoy, many of whom came along with their parents. We really appreciate your time . Many thanks also to our fantastic sponsors Mitchelstown Credit Union for making the day possible. However, as a school, huge thanks must go to our career guidance teachers, Ms Carmel Ryan and Ms Sinead Ryan, whose trojan work and organisation brought the event from concept to realisation. This was a hugely worthwhile event, not only for our own pupils, but for all young people in the area, and by all accounts was a resounding success. Well done to all involved.

With Wellbeing Week over for another year, the school wishes to note the success of the events; it really was a week that brough the whole school together. On this note special thanks needs to be given to the two organising teachers, Ms Sinead Ryan and Ms Carmel Ryan, who were instrumental in making the week the success that it was.
