Wellbeing Week 2026 in CBS Mitchelstown

Last week, from the 2nd to 6th March, was a very important week in the calendar of CBS Secondary School, Mitchelstown: Wellbeing Week. Wellbeing Week is a five day all inclusive, whole school endeavour, that has been occurring in the school for a few years now. The overall aim of the week is to promote wellbeing for the whole school community: staff, students, and parents. With a wide and varied array of events held over the course of the week, all six Wellbeing Indicators were catered to.

Monday saw the week begin with Cyber Safety talks for some first and second year classes, which was continued into Tuesday. For the senior students, Tuesday saw Dessie Fitzgerald delivering a talk on motivation to the LCA, Fifth and Sixth Years, while Wednesday brought our community garda John Hennessey to the hall to deliver a harrowing but important talk on safety, on and offline, entitled “Young People and the Law”. Friday saw the culmination of  Wellbeing Week, with much appreciated treats for staff, and an incredibly moving talk on addiction, recover and resilience, given by the amazing Connor Harris.

However, the largest event of the week took place on Thursday 5th March with the CBS Careers Fair, held in Mitchelstown Leisure Centre. Here over 30 exhibitors from Universities, Technological Universities, PLCs, Agricultural Colleges, SOLAS, the Defence Forces, the Credit Union, and a number of private companies among others, were showcasing their respective post Leaving Cert opportunities. The school would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of our exhibitors  for taking the time to meet with students from the CBS and from our neighbouring schools in Mitchelstown and Fermoy, many of whom came along with their parents. The school would also like to thank their fantastic sponsors Mitchelstown Credit Union for making the day possible. This was a hugely worthwhile event, not only for our own pupils, but for all young people in the area, and by all accounts was a resounding success.

With Wellbeing Week over for another year, the school wishes to note the success of the events; it really was a week that brought the whole school together. On this note, special thanks needs to be given to the two organising teachers, Ms Sinead Ryan and Ms Carmel Ryan, whose trojan work and organisation brought the week from concept to realisation, and who were instrumental in making the week the success that it was. Well done to all involved.
