Picture Three and Four: CBS U14 footballers were involved in a blitz in Mallow last Thursday. They had three teams who played against Kanturk, Boherbue and Mallow. Well done to all involved.
CBS Mitchelstown Wish John Doyle Well in Junior Ryder Cup
CBS Secondary, Mitchelstown, would like to extend their well wishes to Sixth Year student, John Doyle, as he embarks on his debut performance representing Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup in New York this week. This is a phenomenal achievement for John, who had an exceptional season this year, winning the Flogas Irish Boy’s Amateur Open Championship, and the Munster Men’s Play Amateur Open Championship. He also finished as runner up runner up finishes at the St Andrews Links Trophy and English U18s (Carris Trophy), and a sixth-place finish in August at the R&A Boy’s Amateur Championship. Earlier this month, he then enjoyed his first DP World Tour start at this year’s Amgen Irish Open, the only amateur in the field, where he finished nine-over for the tournament.
With John currently sitting second and third respectively in the U18 European Amateur Golf Rankings and European Amateur Men’s Golf Rankings, his selected as a Captain’s Pick for the Junior Ryder Cup was warranted. However, when you consider that this was in lieu of his Leaving Certificate studies, a time that is stressful for most students, the achievement is even more notable. John, even amidst such sporting intensity, is still very much a driven and diligent student, who continues to work consistently here in the school, all of which is testament to his character.
With the first two days of the Junior Ryder Cup bieng played at Nassau Country Club before the decisive singles matches are held at Bethpage Black, the Ryder Cup venue, on the eve of the 45th edition of the biennial contest between Europe and the United States, CBS Secondary School would like to wish him the absolute best.
