The awards night, recognising the stirling efforts of students in 2012/13, was held in Mitchelstown CBS recently. Parents, staff and students joined in acknowledging excellence by students in attendance, academic achievement and special achievement. The awards were once again sponsored very generously by Mitchelstown Credit Union. The importance of community was referred to a number of times though the ceremony, and the important role played by the local Credit Union in the community at large and in the school community was acknowledged.

Mitchelstown CBS hurlers were crowned Under 16 Cork County champions following their hard-earned victory over Patrician Academy Mallow in Kildorrery last Wednesday. In an outstanding game between two evenly matched teams, the CBS emerged victorious by two points after extra-time.

Mitchelstown CBS Under 16 hurlers qualified for the County final following their comprehensive win over Carrigaline in the semi-final last week. The teams met in Fermoy on Wednesday last with stron winds prevailing and extremely wet conditions. Mitchelstown started the better of the teams with Adrian English scoring 1-03 without reply before Carrigaline goaled for their opening score. Mitchelstown’s backs were well on top throughout the first half and confined the Carrigaline forwards to just two further points in the half, while at the other end the forwards were dominant in scoring a further 3-06. At half time Mitchelstown had a commanding lead of 4-09 to 1-02.
