On Wednesday Jan. 22nd the Mitchelstown CBS Third Year rugby players travelled to Mahon to participate in the schools’ blitz organised by Munster Rugby. Their first match was against Bantry, and the honour of first try scorer of the day fell to Jack Fitzgerald. Bantry replied with an opportunist try – a kick downfield bounced awkwardly and they capitalised to touch down. In a game that could have gone either way, the final score was a win for Bantry by 5 tries to 4.

On Friday Jan. 17th Mitchelstown CBS Under 16 footballers made the journey to Ballygarvan to face Rosscarbery in the first round of the Cork Colleges competition.

Mitchelstown got off to a great start with points from Brian White and Colin English. Brian White then added a goal and Mitchelstown appeared to be in control. They did not build on the early impetus however and Rosscarbery began to rally, scoring a number of unanswered points. At half time the score read Mitchelstown 1-05 to Rosscarbery’s 0-04.
