The Mitchelstown CBS under-16 tennis team are Munster champions following their victory in last week’s final in Rushbrooke over St. Flannan’s of Ennis. The team of Michael Blackburne, Jack Blackburne, Mikey Keating and Darren McNamara were crowned champions following a nail-biting finish over their Clare opponents, winning by 3 matches to 2.

Students at Mitchelstown CBS this week presented the Share a Dream Foundation with a cheque for €922, the proceeds of two fundraising events in the school during the year. In March the Student Council organised a non-uniform day, while in May the Transition Year students organised a Sponsored Cycle and donated part of the proceeds to the charity. In accepting the cheque on behalf of the charity, Lorraine Sheehan was very thankful to the students for their great efforts.

As the thoughts of many students focus on the 2013 State exams, Mitchelstown CBS salutes the achievement of Aaron Walsh, who completed his Junior Certificate exam in 2012. Aaron’s excellence at Technical Graphics in the 2012 exam was recognised at the Technoteachers Association annual awards in March.

Are you of that certain vintage that remembers when the Rubick’s Cube was the hottest toy in town? Are memories of Charlie Haughey, Margaret Thatcher, Reagan and Gorbachev fresh in your mind? Can you cast your mind back to 2-station television land, when the highlight was “Fame”, or when you just could not wait for “Anything goes” on a Saturday, or Vincent Hanley’s “MT USA” on Sunday?
